Piping solution for water treatment plants

Holistic selection and delivery of industrial valves for a newly constructed water treatment plant – aligned with piping layout and process requirements.

For the construction of a new water treatment plant, a complete piping solution was required in which all industrial valves were to be supplied from a single source wherever possible. The objective was a technically coordinated implementation based on the existing piping plan, as well as an on-time complete delivery for installation in-house. The requirements related both to product selection and to logistical coordination.

At a glance

  • Industry: Water treatment
  • Application: Piping of a new treatment plant
  • Medium / Process: Process water, treatment and filtration stages
  • Challenge: Selection and coordination of all industrial valves from a single source
  • STASTO solution: Technical design and complete valve supply according to the piping plan
  • Result: Technically coordinated system with reduced coordination effort

The challenge

A plant manufacturer was planning the construction of a new water treatment plant. The entire piping was to be implemented in-house. The basis for the technical implementation was a detailed piping plan that provided for different valve designs and connection variants.

The system comprises several process stages in which process water is filtered, controlled and distributed. This resulted in requirements regarding pressure resistance, media compatibility, corrosion protection, as well as easy maintenance options. In addition, all necessary industrial valves – including shut-off, control and safety valves – were to be sourced from a single supplier wherever possible in order to minimize interfaces.

Standard solutions from individual manufacturers would have resulted in increased coordination and procurement effort. Therefore, a technically consolidated solution with clear system coordination was required.

The STASTO solution

Based on the piping plan, a structured selection of the required industrial valves was carried out together with the customer. The designs, materials, pressure ratings, and connection types were technically evaluated and coordinated with each other.

Among other things, shut-off valves, pressure control components as well as additional fittings and connecting elements were used. The selection was made based on the process, taking into account the respective installation situation. Decisive criteria were a robust design, media-compatible materials and a maintenance-friendly construction.

In addition to the product selection, a complete bill of materials was created. All components were provided on time as a complete package. Delivery was coordinated so that installation could be carried out in-house without additional procurement processes.

The focus was not on individual products, but on a technically coherent overall solution that could be seamlessly integrated into the plant design.

The result

The coordinated selection and complete delivery of the industrial valves enabled the piping to be implemented in a structured manner. The system features an operationally reliable and clearly arranged pipe routing.

The high degree of prefabrication of the components facilitates maintenance and replacement during ongoing operation. Reducing supplier interfaces lowers organizational effort and simplifies future expansions.

For the operator, this results in a reliable solution with clear technical documentation and long-term spare parts availability.

Added value for machine builders

  • Technical design based on existing piping plans
  • Uniform specification of industrial valves
