Compressed air distribution cabinet for automated valves in chemical plants
Subline: Centralized, maintenance-friendly compressed air distribution for pneumatically actuated valves in demanding environments.
In a chemical process plant, numerous valves are pneumatically actuated. To ensure a structured, safe and maintenance-friendly supply to the actuators, a compact compressed-air distribution system was required. The goal was a robust solution that withstands the demands of an aggressive environment while also allowing interventions during ongoing operation.
At a glance
- Industry: Chemicals / Process Industry
- Application: Pneumatic actuation of valves
- Medium / Process: Compressed air in automated systems
- Challenge: Corrosive environment, high maintenance requirements, continuous operation
- STASTO solution: Stainless steel compressed air distribution cabinet with KPV manifold and central air preparation
- Result: Structured distribution, fast maintenance, stable supply
The challenge
In the system under consideration, numerous pneumatic actuators are operated in parallel. Compressed air serves as the central control and working medium for automated valves. Typical of the installation site are chemically aggressive ambient conditions, which place increased demands on material resistance and leak-tightness.
At the same time, the system must run in continuous operation. Downtime for maintenance work is only possible to a limited extent. Individual valves must therefore be able to be shut down and serviced in a targeted manner without affecting the rest of the process.
Standard solutions such as simple valve manifolds or open installations reach their limits here:
- Insufficient corrosion protection
- No option for individual shut-off
- Maintenance-intensive during ongoing operation
A compact, self-contained and modular compressed-air distribution solution was therefore required.
The STASTO solution
A custom-designed compressed air distribution cabinet in a stainless-steel version was used. The choice of material ensures high resistance to aggressive ambient air and meets the requirements of typical chemical applications.
The core of the solution is an integrated manifold structure with a KPV rail (Compact Panel Manifold), which allows multiple outlets to be controlled individually. Each outlet can be shut off separately, enabling targeted interventions on individual consumers.
In addition, a central compressed air preparation unit with filter and pressure regulation components was integrated. This ensures that all downstream consumers are supplied with constant and clean operating parameters.
The compact design in the closed control cabinet enables:
- Protection of components against environmental influences
- clear structuring of distribution
- easy integration into existing plant layouts
Implementation was carried out in close coordination with the plant manufacturer to precisely take into account interfaces, connection diagrams, and installation requirements.
The result
By using the compressed air distribution cabinet, the supply of the pneumatic valves could be structured much more clearly. The central distribution reduces installation effort and improves clarity within the system.
The ability to open or close individual outlets independently of one another significantly improves ease of maintenance. Service work can be carried out in a targeted manner without interrupting the overall process.
The stainless-steel construction ensures long-term operational reliability even under demanding environmental conditions. At the same time, the integrated air preparation contributes to stable and dependable operation of the connected components.
